Patricia JONES biography

Pat Jones became involved in track and field athletics as a high school student and accrued numerous local and provincial honors in British Columbia. At the Canadian trials for the 1948 Summer Olympics, she set national records in the 100 metres and the 4x100 metre relay and easily qualified to represent her country. At the Games she won bronze in the relay, alongside Diane Foster, Nancy MacKay, and Viola Myers, and finished fifth in the 100 m. The following year she came in third in the 100 yards at the Canadian Championships, but helped Eleanor McKenzie, Elaine Silburn, and the non-Olympian Gerry Bemister win the 4x110 yard relay. This victory earned them a trip to the 1950 British Empire Games, where they won bronze, Canada’s only medal in women’s athletics at that tournament. Jones was also eliminated in the heats of the 100 y at this tournament. She retired from active competition shortly after and was inducted into the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.

Personal Best: 100 – 12.1 (1948).
