Switzerland’s Vreni Schneider was the first woman to win five alpine skiing Olympic medals. Schneider won both the slalom and giant slalom at the 1992 Olympic Winter Games. In 1994 at Lillehammer, she won three more medals, repeating as champion in the slalom, while earning a silver in the Alpine combined, and a bronze in the giant slalom. At the World Championships she won the giant slalom in 1987 and 1989, and the slalom in 1991.
