Luc Abalo has a reputation as one of the most exciting handball players of his generation and two Olympic gold medals to show that entertainment and success can go together.
The left-handed Abalo is considered to be one of the most skilful players in the world and is known for his jumping ability and his spin shot.
He was a member of the French team that won back-to-back gold medals at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and London 2012, as well as silver at Rio 2016.
Abalo, nicknamed “Lucio”, is also a two-time world champion having won gold medals with the French team at the World Championships in 2009 in Croatia and in Sweden in 2011.
At the European Championships Abalo has won three gold - in 2006, 2010 and 2014 - and one bronze medal in 2008.
Professionally, Abalo has played with senior clubs US Ivry Handball (1998-2008), BM Ciudad Real (2008-2011), Atletico Madrid (2011-2012), and Paris Saint-Germain Handball (PSG), joining the latter in 2012 so he could be closer to his family in Paris.
