Michael Jung

Three-time Olympic gold medallist Michael Jung retained his Individual Eventing title at Rio 2016 to enhance his reputation as one of the best riders of recent times.

The German equestrian superstar managed the feat by winning on his replacement horse Sam, after FischerTakinou contracted in infection a month before the Games.

Jung also won Team gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games and followed that up with a team silver in Brazil.

His individual Olympic success at London 2012 meant he became the first rider in history to hold the European, World and Olympic titles at the same time.

Jung has won nearly every major horse trial title available and is renowned for his fierce competitive streak.

His determination was perfectly shown by his win at Burghley in 2015 which saw him triumph despite riding with a broken bone just above his ankle.
