A snowboarding legend, Shaun White is a two-time Olympic Winter Games halfpipe champion.
Nicknamed ‘The Flying Tomato’ because of his instantly recognisable long red hair, White first won gold at Turin 2006 and then successfully defended his title at Vancouver 2010.
Known for his tricks, huge air and free-spirit style White, who finished fourth at the Winter Olympic Games Sochi 2014, initially made his name dominating the Winter X Games.
He won a medal every year from 2002 through to 2013, holds the record for most gold medals (13) and was the first snowboarder to win three successive titles in the Winter X Games superpipe.
He switched from skiing to snowboarding at the age of six and by seven had received his first sponsorship.
White is also a talented skateboarder and in 2003 became the first athlete to compete in both the Summer and Winter X Games in two different sports.
He has won a full set of skateboarding medals at the X Games, with two gold (2007, 2011), two silvers (2005, 2010) and one bronze (2008).
White’s career is even more remarkable given he underwent open heart surgery twice before he was a year old.
