Badminton action will resume on Wednesday with the All England Open Badminton Championships getting underway at The Arena Birmingham in Great Britain.

While the widespread of coronavirus has forced a number of events across sporting disciplines to be either postponed or cancelled, the England Championships organisers have decided to go ahead with season’s first Super 1000 event.

Leading the Indian charge at the Championships will be reigning world champion PV Sindhu, who is looking to gain some valuable form ahead of the 2020 Olympics.

While PV Sindhu’s participation at Tokyo 2020 is all but certain, the event assumes a special significance for others who are still in the race to make the Olympic cut.

The $1,100,000 BWF world tour event offers 12,000 ranking points to the winner and B Sai Praneeth, Kidambi Srikanth and Saina Nehwal will be eager to make the most of the opportunity with a fine show over the week.

The competition will, however, see some of the prominent Indian badminton players give it a miss after HS Prannoy, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty announced their withdrawal a few days back.
