Actor Sushant Singh’s demise leaves Indian sports stars in shock
India was jolted with the shocking news of the untimely death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput at his Bandra home in Mumbai. He was 34.
Making his debut in the industry with the movie Kai Po Che, based on Chetan Bhagat's best-selling book ‘The Three Mistakes of My Life’, Sushant Singh Rajput had risen to fame with the biopic of former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Playing the lead role in the movie, ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ went on to become the fifth highest-grossing film of Bollywood in 2016.
The 34-year-old star had acted in more than 12 films in his seven-year-old career, with his last box office project 'Chhichhore' released last year.
The unexpected demise saw the entire nation pouring in condolences on social media with India’s sports fraternity also expressing their shock. It included, among several others, Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza, who recently spoke about the importance of mental health.
The news struck India’s veteran badminton player Parupalli Kashyap in particular, who lost his own sister to suicide in 2011.
Some of Sushant Singh Rajput’s other notable movies include Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! in 2015 and a supporting role in Aamir Khan's 2014 hit PK among others.
Born in Patna, Sushant Singh Rajput had studied engineering and was a National Olympiad Winner in Physics.
Sushant Singh Rajput was the third prominent Bollywood actor to pass away in the last two months after veterans Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor.
