Record German champions Bayern Munich will want to stretch their lead at the top of the Bundesliga when they take on Augsburg in the wee hours of Thursday in matchweek 17.
After a couple of games, where they exited the DFB Pokal -- Germany’s domestic cup competition -- and lost to Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga, Bayern got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory against Freiburg over the weekend.
Striker Robert Lewandowski continued his incredible form as he scored his 21st goal in 16 matches in the Bundesliga, breaking the legendary Gerd Muller’s record of most goals (20) at this stage of the season.
He will again be the lynchpin of the Bayern Munich attack, which will be boosted by Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry, and Kingsley Coman.
In another interesting fixture, Bayer Leverkusen will host Borussia Dortmund. Both are tied on 29 points with Leverkusen sitting third on the basis of their superior goal difference. However, Dortmund are unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions and will look to continue that good run.
The surprise packages of the season Union Berlin – fifth with 28th points – travel to second-placed RB Leipzig, who will aim to close the four-point gap to league leaders Bayern.
