The Russian won a dramatic final in Moscow with the final climb of the competition, as Slovenia's Jernej Kruder took the men's competition
Russia’s Viktoriia Meshkova won a thrilling women’s bouldering final with her last climb on Monday 23 November at the IBSF European Championships in Moscow, live on Olympic Channel.
The men’s event was won by Slovenia's Jernej Kruder, who sealed the title before even attempting the final boulder problem.
Belgium’s Chloe Caulier took an early lead in the women’s competition at the Usmanova Gymnastics Palace, with several impressive flashes - when climbers complete the problem on the first attempt.
But roared on by a socially-distant home crowd, Mushkova showed her impressive explosiveness to leap to the top of the fourth and final problem, and the gold medal.
Caulier finished in second place, while Serbia’s Stasa Gejo took third.
The men were up next and Israel's Ram Levin was in the lead at the half-way point, before being usurped by a magnificent effort from Kruder on problem three.
The subsequent failure from any of the Slovenian's rivals to complete the final problem, meant that he had secured the title before even attempting his fourth and final climb.
In the end, second and third went to Russian teammates Sergi Luzhetskii and Nikolai Iarilovets respectively.
The event was missing some of Europe’s top climbing talent like Slovenia’s Janja Garnbret and Petra Klingler of Switzerland, as they have already secured their place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where sport climbing will be making its Olympic debut.
The European Championships continue with the lead event on Wednesday 25th November.
Two Olympic qualifying berths are up for grabs in the Combined event on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th November, with semi-finals and finals being shown live on Olympic Channel.
