The Indian basketball team will be eager to continue its winning streak at the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 qualifiers which resume in Manama, Bahrain on Friday.
The team, led by Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, endured a heartbreaking one-point loss to Bahrain in its campaign opener in February but did well to bounce back with a convincing win over Iraq in its second match.
India will look to build on when they take on the strongest side in Group D, Lebanon, on November 27. The Indian hoopsters will then wrap up this window with their reverse tie against Bahrain on November 29.
The matches will be played at the Khalifa Sports City behind closed doors in a bio-secure environment.
With a win and a loss, the Indian basketball team is placed third in Group D and will be looking to secure one of the two direct qualification slots available for the continental event next year.
Leading the Indian basketball team in this round of fixtures will be the stand out performer from the opening two matches Muin Bek Hafeez. The 24-year-old power forward was in form against Bahrain and Iraq with averages of 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game.
Joining him will be one of Indian basketball’s established names in Amjyot Singh, who returns to the national team after a lengthy layoff. The six-foot-eight-inch forward has been a reliable figure in the Indian team and is known to do well in pressure situations.
Also making the squad is NBA G-League recruits Princepal Singh and the 20-year-old attacker Sejin Mathew. Experienced players Amritpal Singh and Aravind Annadurai will miss the fixtures.
