Top-ranked Indian tennis player Ankita Raina and her British partner Samantha Murray lost 6-1, 6-2 against the Dutch duo of Bibiane Schoofs and Rosalie van der Hoek in the opening round of Prague Challenger Tuesday.

The doubles event was the 27-year-old’s last hope at the WTA clay-court event after she was upstaged by Russia’s Marina Melnikova in the women's singles on Monday.

Riya Bhatia, the other Indian in the competition, crashed out 6-0, 6-0 in the first round of the singles competition against Czech Republic's Lucie Havlickova.

With Ankita Raina’s loss in the doubles event, India’s challenge at the Prague Challenger came to an end.

Strong start

Schoofs and Van der Hoek made a strong start against Raina and Murray. They saved a break point to win the first game narrowly and then broke Raina and Murray in the second to take an early 2-0 lead

Though the Indo-British pair fought back to break Schoofs-van der Hoek in the third game, that was their only success in the first set.

The Dutch duo rode on their momentum to break Ankita Raina and Samantha Murray in the fourth and the sixth games to win the first set 6-1 in less than half an hour.

The second set was no better for Raina and Murray. They were broken in the first game and never recovered. Leading 4-1, Schoofs and Hoek put the match beyond the Indo-British pair, winning the set 6-2 in just 28 minutes.
