After coming close to winning a title at the ATP 500 World Tennis Tournament at Rotterdam last week, Rohan Bopanna started his Open 13 Provence campaign in France on a positive note alongside partner Denis Shapovalov, as they won 6(6)-7(8), 6-3, 10-6 against Italian duo Jannik Sinner and Simone Bolelli.
Meanwhile, world no. 102 men’s doubles player Ramkumar Ramanathan defeated the Mexican-Brazilian pair of Manuel Sanchez and Guilherme Clezar 7-5, 6-4, 10-0 alongside his Australian partner Harry Bourchier at the Morelos Open ATP Challenger Tour.
Rohan Bopanna, Denis Shapovalov taken to the wire
Rohan Bopanna and Denis Shapovalov had to claw their way back on Wednesday when Jannik Sinner and Simone Bolelli took the first set in a tiebreaker by an 8-6 margin.
The Indo-Canadian duo had to respond quickly and despite getting broken once in the third game, Rohan Bopanna and his partner broke the Italian duo twice to win the second set 6-3 and level the match 1-1.
The super tiebreaker, which was going to be decided in the first to ten points, saw Rohan Bopanna and Co. quickly take a 3-1 lead after breaking their opponent in the fourth serve. However, the Italians didn’t make it easy for the Indo-Canadian pair, who was broken twice before eventually winning the decider 10-6.
Ramkumar Ramanathan whitewashes super tie-breaker
Coming to the Mexico Challenger tournament at the back of the Bengaluru Tennis Open title alongside compatriot Pura Raja, Ramkumar Ramanathan was looking to capitalize on his momentum with Harry Bourchier. But, the Indo-Australian pair was defeated 5-7 in the first set.
Ramkumar Ramanathan and Harry Bourchier didn’t waste any time to get back into the match by breaking their opponent in the very first game of the second set and seal it 6-4, thereby bringing parity at 1-1.
The highlight of the match, however, was the super tiebreaker where Ramkumar Ramanathan and his partner won all their serves and broke their opponents on all five occasions to win it 10-0.
