Despite a below-par start to his time in India, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has found backing from his peers in the Indian Super League (ISL).

Owen Coyle, the head coach at Jamshedpur FC, believes that it’s just a matter of time before the Liverpool great starts producing results with East Bengal in ISL 2020-21. Fowler’s team is yet to win a match this season.

“Robbie has already shown in the jobs that he has had that he is a very capable coach. He has a good staff, people who have experienced the game for a long time,” Owen Coyle said at a media briefing.

“There’s no doubt that if they spend more time together East Bengal under Robbie’s guidance will be a real force. Most success stories take time. People think and want everything to happen straight away. But in football, that’s never the case.”

In their four games so far, East Bengal are yet to score a goal. The ISL debutants have managed a draw and lost three games to languish at the bottom of the ISL points table. But Robbie Fowler has chosen to look at the positives.

“Whenever a striker is not scoring a goal everyone thinks that he is not having enough confidence but it is not like that always. We need other people as well to score goals,” Fowler explained.

“I would have been more worried if we were not creating chances. We are a team who like to play football and that is evident. We have an identity, a philosophy and we won’t change that because that is what we are all about.

“Strikers go through such phases in their careers where they don’t score goals and that is okay. It is not ideal but again we are creating chances. If you are a striker and not getting chances then that is a time to worry. We are getting chances and so that is not something we should get worried too much about.”

Up next for East Bengal will be Hyderabad FC on Tuesday, a team that has looked promising in ISL 2020-21. And for Robbie Fowler, a win against the Nizams will go a long way in helping East Bengal revive their campaign.
