The Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21 season will get underway with a mouthwatering clash between Kerala Blasters FC and reigning champions ATK Mohun Bagan on November 20 in Goa.
ISL 2020-21 fixtures until January 11 (round 11), featuring six double-headers, were released by the organisers of India's premier football league on Friday.
“The schedule for the remaining 55 league matches will be published in December post clarity on calendar dates of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Competitions matches,” read a statement from the ISL. Each matchday comprises five matches as per the ISL schedule.
Three-time champions and previous season's winners ATK will be playing ISL season 7 under the new identity of ATK Mohun Bagan after their historic merger with legacy club Mohun Bagan.
The coming together of the two Kolkata clubs have been one of the highlights of the pre-season build up for ISL 2020-21 along with the inclusion of SC East Bengal - Mohun Bagan's traditional arch-rivals - as the 11th team in the competition.
Kerala Blasters and ATK matches have kicked off the previous three ISL seasons and the two clubs have always shared an interesting rivalry, having met in the final twice. Mohun Bagan's introduction will only add to the grand occasion.
Staying with grand rivalries of Indian football, East Bengal, coached by Liverpool great Robbie Fowler, begin their ISL journey on November 27 against ATK Mohun Bagan.
Clashes between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan have been the biggest match in Indian football for the past 100 years. The rivalry is also considered one of the oldest and keenly contested in world football.
This will be the first time fans will get to witness the famous 'Kolkata Derby' play out on the ISL stage, albeit in Goa.
ISL 2018-19 finalists Bengaluru FC and FC Goa lock horns on November 22, making for another treat for Indian football fans.
