Though defending champions Real Madrid and runner-up FC Barcelona don’t feature in La Liga’s first matchweek of the 2020-21 season, Indian football fans will see the familiar Spanish flavour return to the sport starting Saturday.
Seven matches have been scheduled in the opening matchweek of La Liga 2020-21 season with Eibar hosting Celta Vigo to kick off proceedings. You can watch live streaming of that game in India.
David Silva traded Manchester City’s blue jersey for Real Sociedad’s stripes as the 34-year-old returned to Spain following a Premier League stint which saw him win four titles.
However, the midfield maestro isn’t expected to travel with the team to Valladolid on Sunday as Silva has tested positive for COVID-19. Real Sociedad, nevertheless, will look to build on their sixth-place finish in the La Liga last season, which saw them qualify for the Europa League group stages.
Villarreal will be under the spotlight as well after the Yellow Submarine appointed three-time Europa League-winning manager Unai Emery at the helm following their fifth-place finish last season. Villarreal host Huesca at La Cerámica on Sunday.
Six-time La Liga champions Valencia will kick start their campaign by hosting Levante at the Mestalla on Monday. After missing out on European football by just three points last season, Los Murcielagos will be determined to go a step further this time.
