Real Madrid keep pressure on Barcelona with win against Eibar
Real Madrid kept up the pressure on La Liga leaders Barcelona with victory over Eibar on Sunday.
It took only four minutes for Zinedine Zidane's team to open the scoring as Tony Kroos put the ball in the top-right corner of the net.
Sergio Ramos then doubled the lead on the half hour mark before Marcelo added a third for Real Madrid seven minutes later.
Pedro Bigas Rigo pulled a goal back for the visitors in the second half at a match played at Real Madrid's training complex due to renovation work at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Athletic Bilbao vs Atletico Madrid
It ended all square at the San Mamés Stadium between Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid.
The home side opened the scoring through Iker Muniain in the 37th minute.
But Diego Simeone's team soon hit back as Diego Costa levelled matters just two minutes later.
The match ended 1-1 as Atletico Madrid, with their third straight draw, sit sixth in the table with 46 points from 28 games.
Mallorca vs Barcelona
Barcelona hit the ground running on Saturday as they recorded a comfortable 4-0 win at Mallorca.
It took them just two minutes to open the scoring through an Arturo Vidal header before Martin Braithwaite registered his first goal for the club in the 37th minute with a Lionel Messi assist.
The game, which also saw Luis Suarez returning from injury, was put to bed in the 79th minute when Lionel Messi came up with another assist for full-back Jordi Alba.
With the outcome beyond doubt, Messi added the fourth in stoppage time.
The Argentine, as a result, became the first player to score at least 20 goals in 12 successive La Liga seasons.
Barcelona continue to top the La Liga standings after the first round of matches in the restarted competition, with a two point advantage over Real Madrid.
