The world’s premier basketball competition is back with a new, truncated season starting December 22. Watch the NBA live in India!
Two months after the Los Angeles Lakers were crowned champions for a record-equalling 17th time, the NBA is back for the 2020-21 season early morning on Wednesday.
Sixteen-time NBA All-Star and four-time MVP LeBron James teamed up with Anthony Davis to bring the title home to the LA Lakers after a 10-year wait, which brought the Lakers level with Boston Celtics for most NBA championships. Watch the NBA on live streaming in India.
The dynamic duo will share the court once again for the Lakers after Davis signed on for five years to partner James, who had already agreed to a two-year deal.
LA Lakers have brought in Dennis Schroder and Marc Gasol, the younger brother of ex-Laker Pau Gasol, among others to help launch another title challenge in NBA 2020-21.
The Lakers’ Western Conference rivals Houston Rockets though face a few issues going into the new season. They have already traded out Russell Westbrook to the Washington Wizards for John Wall and their ex-league MVP James Harden is also reportedly looking for a way out.
Elsewhere in the Eastern Conference, the Milwaukee Bucks received a big boost ahead of the new season as they agreed a supermax five-year extension with reigning league MVP and superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Bucks have topped the Eastern Conference in each of the last two seasons going into the postseason, but the title remains elusive. To change that, the Milwaukee Bucks have brought in Jrue Holiday to assist ‘Greek Freak’ Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton.
Former league MVP and two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant will finally make his long-awaited debut for the Brooklyn Nets in the 2020-21 season. Durant joined the Nets in 2019 but was forced to sit out the 2019-20 season after rupturing his Achilles tendon.
With the previous NBA season undergoing a long delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the issues have spilled over to the new season, necessitating a few changes in structure and schedule.
Each team will only play 72 games this season instead of the usual 82. The teams will have home and away games but will only play three times against other teams in their conference. Usually, teams play four games against 10 opponents in their conference and three against the others.
Teams will also play two consecutive games in the same city against the same opponents in order to reduce travel and COVID risks. Furthermore, there will be no All-Star game this season, but the season will take a break from March 5-10, between the two halves of the season.
The NBA has only released the schedule for the first half thus far, with the second half schedule expected sometime in March to account for any suspended games or postponements due to COVID.
There will mostly be no fans at games but the decision will be taken by each team after consulting with local health officials.
Live streaming of NBA in India will be available on the subscription-based NBA League Pass.
