Today is First Love Day, so we wanted to know when you first fell in love with the Olympic Games? Let us know on Twitter.

For this writer, it was the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, watching the U.S. women’s gymnastics team win its first ever Olympic gold.

Naomi Osaka announces French Open withdrawal

2020 U.S. Open champion Naomi Osaka announced Thursday evening that she will not participate in the upcoming French Open. The Grand Slam, the last for 2020 after the coronavirus pandemic forced its postponement, is scheduled to begin Monday.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play the French Open this year,” wrote Osaka on Twitter. “My hamstring is still sore so I won’t have enough time to prepare for the clay – these 2 tournaments came too close to each other for me this time.”

Prior to her U.S. Open victory, Osaka pulled out of her final round match at the Western & Southern Open. Though her leg was heavily strapped during her U.S. Open run, it did not appear to hamper her en route to her second U.S. Open title. Osaka gained worldwide attention as she wore seven masks for seven Black individuals killed by police violence.

“Miss you guys, but you’ll see me sooner than later!” Osaka concluded her announcement.

Simone Biles, Allyson Felix, Nathan Adrian transformed into superheroes

As part of Marvel’s Avengers new video game, several Olympians including gymnastics superstar Simone Biles, athletics gold medallist Allyson Felix and Olympic champion swimmer Nathan Adrian look even more like superheroes.

Biles, the four-time Olympic champion and 19-time World gold medallist, posted a photo of herself as Black Widow Thursday. She said her greatest power – in addition to flying, presumably – is her ability to use her strength.

“My coaches taught me to embrace that,” she said, according to Popsugar.

Adrian and Felix were transformed into Thor and Ms. Marvel, respectively.

Felix said superheroes “give you something to strive for. They display all of those amazing things that a lot of times we don't think are possible. But I think we need that, we need that glimpse of the impossible to be able to bring that back to our own lives."

2016 women’s rugby champ Chloe Dalton: "Winning gold at Rio was a pretty massive moment.”

Chloe Dalton and her Olympic gold medallist rugby teammates gathered in July to mark the day they would have competed at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

"We got together as a team and decided it was really important to celebrate the time we were due to be in Tokyo this year in 2020, so we had a bit of a lunch together,” said Dalton, according to Inside the Games. "I got dressed in my kit from Rio and did a bit of a throttle back which was good fun.”

Dalton scored 34 points as Australia captured the first women’s rugby sevens gold medal at Rio 2016.

"Winning gold at Rio was a pretty massive moment,” she said, before detailing how her sport was growing in her country in the wake of their victory.

"It’s pretty amazing to see there are now over 100 girls [at the school I went to] playing rugby, when I was a kid I used to watch my brothers play rugby,” said Dalton.
