Amy Olson leads after day one of the British Open

The first women’s golf major of the year got underway on Thursday at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. American Amy Olson shot a four-under 67 to lead the field by three.

"That was the best ball-striking day of my life," Olson said, according to Reuters. "I kept the trajectory on every shot what I wanted."

Fellow American Marina Alex and Germany’s Sophia Popov sit second with 10 women tied for fourth. Rio 2016 Olympic champ Inbee Park sits 12th currently after recording a 77.

Players faced tough conditions during the first round, including winds up to 65 km per hour.

"This is by far the worst weather I've had playing links golf," Nelly Korda, the current No. 4 in the world, said.

Thomas, the 2018 Commonwealth Games 200m butterfly champion, is training for her first Olympics, and in the first episode, shares her experience training at home and returning to the pool

“It all happened very quickly for us,” Thomas recalls. “The pool got shut down, trials got canceled. Everything suddenly disappeared from my normal routine.”

Allyson Felix, Louis Zamperini, and Janet Evans voted top USC Olympians

Allyson Felix, the most decorated female athletics Olympian, tops a list of fan voted Olympians who have competed at the University of Southern California-Los Angeles (USC). USC has produced more Olympians, Olympic medals, and Olympic champions than any other U.S. college.

Louis Zamperini, whose courageous story of survival during World War II is featured in the New York Times best-selling book ‘Unbroken,’ came second in the voting, followed by four-time Olympic gold medallist Janet Evans.

As a 34-year-old mother to daughter Camryn, Felix is has competed at the 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympics, and is currently training for Tokyo 2020. She’s won nine Olympic medals, six of them gold, including a 200m win at London 2012.

“I still want to make my fifth Olympic team and the goal hasn’t changed. I want to win,” Felix told ESPN in April.
