Just weeks later, Davis would have a role at London 2012 as a late call-up to Team USA as an injury replacement.
Davis averaged 7.6 minutes per game over seven games, scoring 26 points and 19 rebounds in the tournament en route to winning Olympic gold.
Biles, the quadruple champion from Rio 2016, had expressed a desire to retire after Tokyo 2020 but had to re-focus after the Games were postponed.
Speaking on a Facebook Live video with MasterClass, she noted that she would normally have been taking part at the national Olympic trials this past week.
"I have never felt more prepared and more ready in my life. I do feel ... that loss of direction, because I've never had a year where I don't compete," she said.
Biles recently showed off a new triple-double dismount from the balance beam.
Another gymnast who should have been at the Olympic trials was Lee. But, even if they had gone ahead, the 17-year-old may have been forced to miss them.
The Minneapolis-based athlete twisted her ankle just two weeks after returning to full-time training when her gym reopened.
"The toughest part was going back on the uneven bars," Lee told the New York Times. "I was really upset when I hurt my ankle on bars because now I can’t do them for another few weeks. It’s basically the same injury I had last year going into national championships."
One thing that has kept Lee going? Talking to Biles. A lot.
"It’s really nice to get to know her in this way because she was my idol and I used to see her as this intimidating gold medallist, but now she’s a friend."
Back in the world of basketball, the NBA confirmed the schedule for its restarted season on Saturday (27 June).
Each of the 22 teams taking part in the resumption will play eight regular-season games, which will begin on 30 July. These games will help determine the seeding for the playoffs, which will feature 16 teams.
However, there may be additional play-in games as part of the league's temporary structure to see out the 2019/2020 season.
All eyes will be on Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks, who held the NBA's best record before the season was suspended.
Murray played four games in five days and had lost in the semi-finals to British number one Dan Evans, who overcame a 1-6 first set loss to Murray. Evans went on to win the tournament.
The 33-year-old, whose last tournament was the Davis Cup Finals in November 2019, had been due to play in a third-place playoff against Cameron Norrie but decided to pull out to protect his health.
He's next expected to play in New York in August.
