Premier League preview: Tottenham vs Man Utd probable starting line-up, live streaming in India, TV times and more
Manchester United face off against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Saturday as both sides get set to resume their Premier League campaign post the COVID-19 break.
Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will be patrolling the touchline for Spurs and the Portuguese manager’s tactical battle with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - his successor at Old Trafford - is sure to make the fixture a tantalizing affair for both sets of fans as well as neutrals.
Where they stand in the Premier League table
Tottenham Hotspur are currently placed eighth in the Premier League table with 41 points from 29 matches. Manchester United, meanwhile, are fifth with 45 points from as many outings.
While the Red Devils will be looking for the three points to break into the top four at the expense of Chelsea (48 points from 29 matches), Jose Mourinho’s men will be eyeing the maximum to get themselves back in the top four race after a dry spell before the break saw them slip down the order.
Three points from the tie will take Manchester United level on points with Chelsea but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will be placed over Frank Lampard’s boys based on goal difference.
Likely starting line-ups
Tottenham Hotspur predicted starting XI: Hugo Lloris, Serge Aurier, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Ben Davies, Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko, Steven Bergwijn, Erik Lamela, Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane
Manchester United predicted starting XI: David de Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Daniel James, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial
Injuries and team news
Tottenham Hotspur will be without the services of Dele Alli, who will be serving a one-match ban. On the injury front, young English defender Japhet Tanganga is out with a back problem while Argentine midfielder Giovanni Lo Celso remains doubtful and is due for a late fitness test.
On a more positive note, Jose Mourinho is set to welcome back ace striker Harry Kane, South Korean playmaker Heung-Min Son, January signing Steven Bergwijn and midfield enforcer Moussa Sissoko, all of whom were struggling with injuries before the break.
Similar to their counterparts, Manchester United will be welcoming back the likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford. Paul Pogba’s last involvement was in December 2019 before a long injury forced him out.
The Frenchman, however, is back in training and even featured in one of Manchester United’s preparatory matches against Reading recently.
So did Marcus Rashford, whose season was feared to be over post a serious back injury during an FA Cup replay against Wolves in January.
Defenders Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are likely to miss out with injuries.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United head-to-head
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have crossed paths in the Premier League on 55 occasions, with the Red Devils coming out on top 35 times compared to the Lilywhites’ nine wins. The remaining 11 matches ended in draws.
In the reverse fixture in the Premier League 2019-20 season back in December last year, Manchester United emerged 2-1 winners. Marcus Rashford struck both the goals for the Red Devils.
Players to watch out for
Harry Kane’s return will be the big draw for Tottenham Hotspur.
The English striker has been the North London club’s top scorer for the past five seasons and despite being sidelined since January with a thigh muscle injury, is still the team’s top scorer in the Premier League with 11 goals.
From Manchester United’s side, January signing Bruno Fernandes will be the one to look out for.
Since his arrival at the club, the Portuguese has been a pivotal piece of the team and the prospect of the midfield wizard linking up with the returning Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford will be a lip-smacking prospect for Manchester United fans.
In his five Premier League appearances in the Manchester United shirt till date, Bruno Fernandes has scored two and assisted three, laying out a whopping 2.2 key passes per match.
What they said
Jose Mourinho: “Harry Kane hasn’t played football for more than six months. So again, he is working extremely well. I can tell you no problem, he’s going to start the game.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: “It's a great game, a big game against one of the best teams in the league of course, Champions League finalists less than a year ago, so we know that we're up for a hard game.”
