WATCH: Moment the 2026 Winter Olympics were awarded to Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo

The Italian candidature beat Sweden's Stockholm-Are in the host city election, with jubilant scenes from the winning delegation greeting the announcement in Lausanne. IOC President Thomas Bach congratulated Milan-Cortina for their "Iconic venues and beautiful settings, combining the attractions of a modern European metropolis with a classic Alpine environment." He went on to praise the "passion and knowledge" of the fans following the vote result, which sees the 2026 Winter Paralympics also head to Italy.
