Ivica KOSTELIC: biografia

Although best known as the older brother of skiing star Janica Kostelić, Ivica Kostelić became a world class skier himself. Primarily a slalom specialist, he has won eight World Cup races (as of 2009), the 2003 slalom world title and the overall Slalom World Cup in 2002. His slalom abilities also make him a top combined competitor, winning a silver medal in that discipline at the 2006 Olympics, and winning one (super) combined World Cup. In recent years, Kostelić has also appeared in non-slalom events, and has in fact placed in the top 10 at a World Cup in all five disciplines. In 2009, he finished fourth in the overall World Cup, his career best. Ivica Kostelić's first World Cup win, back in 2001, was highly remarkable, in that he had starting number #64. Only two skiers have ever won a World Cup with a higher number.
